The Board of Governors collectively represents many sectors of city and state activity. All are volunteers who provide dedicated service to the City Club of Chicago.

Anthony A. Cole, Haymarket Center
A professional with over 30 years experience, M. Anthony A. Cole is currently employed as the Vice President of Haymarket Center, the largest provider of addictions healthcare services in metropolitan Chicago and Cook County serving some 16,000+ clients annually.
Mr. Cole has served as the Chair of the Illinois Alcoholism and Drug Dependency Association (IADDA) - representing over 50 agencies; as well as the First Vice Chair of Chicago Committee on Urban Opportunity (CCUO) since 2008. Also, he has served on the Boards of the Community Behavioral Healthcare Association (CBHA), the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP), and the Therapeutic Communities of America (TCA).
He has extensive experience in public policy, advocacy, program development and management. This skill set, combined with a Masters Degree in Alcohol and Drug studies and a certificate in Non-Profit Management, has been the basis for his success in the field.
His advocacy efforts were acknowledged via his selection as IADDA’s 1998 recipient of the George Schwab Distinguished Service Award. He was a major advocate for the reinstatement of unrestricted benefit limits for pregnant clients and the addition of Detox services into the Medicaid plan for reimbursement; and the most recent Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for the Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA) funded providers.
Most recently, Mr. Cole received the 2007 Dr. C. Vincent Bakeman Memorial Award from IADDA in recognition of his leadership and dedication to the advancement of substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery.
Because of the public policy/professional leadership he has been considered a subject expert on addictions healthcare, and consequently as a featured commentator on FOX-TV, CBS, and WTTW (Channel 11), in addition to interviews by the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times and Washington Post newspapers. -
Jay D. Doherty, Jay D. Doherty & Associates
Jay Doherty owns and operates his own public affairs firm in Chicago.
He has been retained for his experience and expertise in state, county and municipal government by a range of corporate concerns, including Commonwealth Edison/Exelon, IBM, Illinois American Water, AECOM USA, Inc., Corn Products International,Midwest Generation EME LLC, and Centegra Health Systems.
Doherty’s private sector clients enlist him to develop strategies for building and strengthening their relationships with governments, communities and other businesses.
In 1976, he joined Sargent Shriver's presidential campaign, beginning a long, close relationship with the Kennedy family. Doherty was recruited by the Kennedys to serve as Director of Communications for the Merchandise Mart and later as the family's "point man" for fundraising and public appearances in Illinois, a post he still holds.
Doherty currently serves as president of the City Club of Chicago, www.cityclub-chicago.org, a 109 year-old, bipartisan, civic organization-widely recognized as Illinois' premier public affairs forum.
The City Club of Chicago has over 1400 members and includes many of Illinois’ opinion makers.
In May, 2010, Doherty received the Anne McGlone Burke Award, the highest honor given by Special Olympics Chicago and Special Children’s Charities, in recognition for his work with children and adults with special needs.
He is a 1975 graduate of Marquette University, where he served as president of the student government.
Doherty and his wife Colleen live in Chicago and are the proud parents of three sons and a daughter.

Robert H. Fischer
Robert H. Fischer is an Executive Engineering Consultant. He retired from AECOM Technology Corporation, a major Global Engineering Company on January 1, 2009, and remains a consultant to them. A native of Chicago for 59 years, he is familiar with Chicago Governmental, Charitable and Institutional Organizations. Robert H. Fischer, when with AECOM, was named AECOM Senior Corporate Vice President and Director of Operations in 2005. In this role, Mr. Fischer oversaw the performance of AECOM’s operating groups and companies operations. In addition, he chaired AECOM’s Office of Risk Management and administered AECOM’s Delegation of Authority. He also served on the AECOM Executive Management Board and was Chairman of the AECOM Scholarship Committee.
Mr. Fischer joined the AECOM corporate staff after having served in a number of senior management positions in operations. He had over 37 years of professional technical serves experience with AECOM and its acquired companies. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of AECOM’s Americas Transportation and Environmental Groups. In that role, he provided oversight for several operating companies that participated in the development of roads, bridges, transit, rail, clean water, wastewater, and airports throughout the United Sates.
Mr. Fischer has participated in a number of major projects such as: airport improvements in Chicago; rehabilitation of the Times Square subway complex in New York; improvements to Chicago and Detroit’s public schools; and development of water and wastewater improvements locally as well as in Asia and the Middle East. -
Paul M. Green, Roosevelt University
Paul Green is Director of the Institute for Politics and Arthur Rubloff Professor of Policy Studies at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. He is also the Political Analyst for WGN Radio in Chicago, a guest columnist for the Daily Herald newspaper and Crain’s Chicago magazine and the author of several books and articles on Illinois and Chicago politics. His latest publications, co-authored with Mel Holli, are entitled World War II Chicago and The Mayors: The Chicago Political Tradition, 3rd edition.
Professor Green is frequently quoted and interviewed by the national news organizations for his views on the American political scene. His name appears frequently as source in news stories appearing in the New York Times, Washington Post, Time, and Newsweek. He has also lectured at universities in Europe, Asia, and Africa and was one of few American academic/journalist to travel with the candidates for British Prime Minister in 1997. Of special note—every two years Paul lectures at the prestigious Chatham House—Royal Institute for International Affairs—in London.
Paul is also a former elected official. He served as Monee Township Supervisor from 1977 to 1983.
Paul received his BA at the University of Illinois in History and Political Science and his MA and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. He is married to Sharon Green, Director of Programs and Research Planning—Institute for Women’s Health-Northwestern University. They have two children. -
Martha J. Jantho
Martha J. Jantho is a native of Brooklyn, New York. She grew up in Malverne, Long Island, New York. A graduate of the Executive Secretary program of Katharine Gibbs, she attended Adelphi University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude. She received a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois' Jane Addams School of Social Work.
A former Chicago Board of Education member, she served as its Vice President and as Chair of the Committee on School Desegregation. Other volunteer activity includes the City Club of Chicago, the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, and the Newberry Library Book Sale Committee.
Martha has been a school social worker as well as a clinical social worker in a hospital setting. She has been a consultant on matters relating to urban education for the Illinois Office of the Governor, the Chicago School Finance Authority, and the Education Commission of the States.
She established schools for high school drop-outs, Middle Colleges, at the campuses of Truman and Olive-Harvey, two of the City Colleges of Chicago and has worked in various facets of community relations for the Chicago Public Schools. -
Grant B. Linsky , GBL Real Estate & Development Co., Inc.
Mr. Linsky has been an active member of the City Club of Chicago since 2003 and has been a member of its board since 2006. During 2009 Mr. Linsky participated in the drafting of the City Club's new by-laws.
Mr. Linsky is President of GBL Real Estate and Development Company, Inc. With over 20 years experience, he has brokered, managed and developed various types of properties. He currently resides in the West Loop with his wife, Nancy. -
Christine Przybyla Long , Long Group
Christine Przybyla Long--most often known as Chris--is a Chicagoan, born and bred, and an activist by temperament. For many years I was the President of the Long Group, founded in 1980 to develop programs, manage civic events and campaigns, provide training, and deliver publication and communication assistance. In that role I have worked on the national staff of four presidential campaigns and numerous candidates for every level of government. But I have also been active in (and for) many not-for-profit organizations, receiving the Edward Cudecki American Pluralism Award in 1995 for my promotion of inter-ethnic, inter-racial cooperation.
Since 1984 I have been active in the City Club of Chicago as a member of the Board of Governors. During the past year I have been an active participant in both the Review and the By-Laws Revision committees.
I am especially proud of my extensive work in Poland during its transition to democracy, assisting its new leadership in the re-creation of a bicameral legislative structure, in facilitating four major U.S.-sponsored training programs for legislators, local elected officials, and their staffs, and the successful establishment of a training facility for women workers in Lodz. My pride in my Polish heritage and my long participation in Chicago's Polish-American community--including my appointment to the Warsaw Committee of the Chicago Sister Cities International Program as its Education Chair, membership in the founding board of the Polish-American Leadership Initiative, and service with many other groups--came together with my professional skills to provide several productive years of service.
I am a graduate of Milwaukee's Alverno College and possess more graduate hours of credit in more programs than any one can imagine. -
Edward H. Mazur, The Mazur Group
Dr. Edward Mazur is vice-president of THE MAZUR GROUP: CONSULTANTS TO MANAGEMENT. For more than thirty-five years, he has developed and trained leading practitioners in diverse areas including public administration, public policy, human resources, social and criminal justice, and health care cost containment. Ed has a BA and MA from the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in Urban History and Politics. Retired from the academic classroom, he served on the faculties of the City Colleges of Chicago (emeritus); University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, Governors State University, the University of Perugia, the University of Padua, Trinity College/Dublin and the University of Vienna.
Edward Mazur is the author of several monographs and more than 100 articles in the areas of urban affairs, politics, transportation, human resource development, and diversity.
Currently, Dr. Mazur consults with a variety of federal, state, county, municipal, and private organizations. Recent clients include the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the International Visitors Center, the City of Chicago, the Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Board of Elections, the Cook County Sheriff, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, and the Illinois Historical Society.
Edward Mazur has been active and contributing Governor of the City Club of Chicago since 1997. He currently serves on the By-Laws Committee, the Green Committee, and as needed program moderator. -

Frank C. Paul
Frank Paul – Frank Paul has been a public finance investment banker in Chicago for over three decades. He has served the capital financing needs of state and local governments raising over $10 billion in nearly 450 separate transactions. He has had the opportunity to work with every major government in the Chicago area. Some of the notable projects he has financed are the Wacker Drive reconstruction project, the Illinois Holocaust Museum, the first variable financing for Cook County and economic development financings throughout the State. He also serves as a pension trustee for the RTA.
He has served on several government advisory boards including the Local Government Advisory Board and the Illinois Securities Advisory Commission. He has served on gubernatorial transition teams advising on capital finance and infrastructure committees. Frank Paul has been a member of the City Club Board of Governors for over 20 years. He was elected twice to serve as Township Committeeman of Evanston Township.
He has been active in his community as a member holding leadership positions in several organizations, including Rotary, Rebuilding Together, the Indiana Society of Chicago and Boys' and Girls' Clubs.
Prior to working in the private sector, he worked for Mayor Richard Lugar and Mayor William Hudnut in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also served in the Indiana Department of Commerce. Mr. Paul graduated from Wabash College and Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. -
Christopher F. Robling, Jayne Thompson & Associates
Chris Robling's career includes experience in media, government, agency public relations and politics. He joined Jayne Thompson and Associates as its first Principal in April 2002.
Mr. Robling has executed communications campaigns for a wide variety of corporate and institutional clients, focusing on class-action defense litigation. His work has been honored by a Silver Anvil, two top awards from the American Public Transportation Association and an Addy Award. He also is a recipient of a Peter Lisagor Award for his work on WMAQ-AM, then a CBS-Infinity all-news station.
Mr. Robling led the Republican members of the Chicago Regional Transportation Task Force in 2004, authoring their Minority Report. He is a former senior official of the Regional Transportation Authority and has spoken on urban mobility issues in Paris, Stockholm and in the United States.
Mr. Robling recorded the definitive interview of Mike Royko for WBEZ-FM. He has interviewed Henry Kissinger, Tom Wicker, former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Gene McCarthy, then-Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, Anatoly Dobrynin, Warren Buffet and Tom Wolfe, among others. Since 2004 he has been the WGN-TV Morning News Republican analyst.
Mr. Robling speaks frequently on professional and public issues and has lectured at the University of Chicago, Northwestern's Kellogg and Medill schools, DePaul and Roosevelt Universities. Mr. Robling graduated from Georgetown University and attended Northwestern University School of Law. -
David Francis Ryan, St. Francis de Sales
Fr. David Francis Ryan was ordained a priest at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Springfield, Illinois on June 2, 1979 for the Springfield Diocese. He offered his First Mass at his home parish, Our Savior, in Jacksonville, Illinois. He attended both the parish grade school and Routt Catholic High School in Jacksonville. Fr. Ryan graduated from Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois with a B.A. in History.
Fr. Ryan studied for the priesthood at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri after he graduated from college. His first assignment as a priest was as Associate Pastor at St. Ambrose Parish in Godfrey, Illinois in 1979. In 1982, Fr. Ryan was named Executive Director of the Catholic Children’s Home in Alton, Illinois as well as Associate Director of Catholic Charities for the Springfield Diocese. He also taught religion classes at Marquette Catholic High School in Alton for four years and served as chaplain for the school’s athletic teams.
Fr. Ryan was named Assistant Executive Director of Maryville Academy in Des Plaines in 1985 and incardinated as a priest of the Chicago Archdiocese in 1989 by Joseph Cardinal Bernardin. While assigned to management and operations at Maryville, Fr. Ryan continued his education and received a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1994 from Chicago Loyola University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1996.
In December of 2003, Fr. Ryan was named Acting Executive Director of Maryville. For twenty years, Fr. Ryan served the Maryville Mission with Fr. John P. Smyth, the Executive Director, in advocating for the necessary programs and protection of abused, abandoned, and neglected youth in Chicago and Illinois through the twenty Maryville sites in Des Plaines, Chicago, Bartlett, Maywood, Durand and the summer camp in Eagle River, Wisconsin. At the time, Maryville was serving 1100 infants, children and youth with a staff of 900 and an annual budget of over $60,000,000. Fr. Ryan also served as Assistant Director of the Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Chicago when appointed in 1991 by Joseph Cardinal Bernardin.
From January through July of 2005, Fr. Ryan was assigned as Parochial Administrator of St. Emily Parish in Mount Prospect, Illinois. He continued to assist at the parish until appointment as Pastor of St. Francis de Sales Parish, effective July 1, 2006. -
